💡 About Udaipur

Udaipur, in the desert state of Rajasthan, is one of the most romantic cities in India — often called the "City of Lakes" or the "Venice of the East." Founded in 1559 as the capital of the kingdom of Mewar, it is a shimmering vision of white palaces, ornate temples and serene lakes ringed by the ancient Aravalli hills.

The city seems to float on water, its dreamlike beauty defined by the reflections of grand buildings in its lakes. The famous Lake Palace, a gleaming white marble former royal residence, appears to rise magically from the middle of Lake Pichola, while the immense City Palace complex towers over the shore.

Udaipur was the proud heart of the Rajput warrior clans who fiercely resisted the Mughal emperors, and its palaces, forts and havelis speak of a glorious martial and artistic heritage. Its narrow streets are filled with miniature painters, whose art is a celebrated local tradition.

With its rooftop restaurants overlooking the water, sunset boat rides and fairy-tale atmosphere, Udaipur has enchanted travellers and filmmakers alike. Elegant, tranquil and steeped in Rajput romance, it is the jewel of Rajasthan.
