This Privacy Policy explains how GuesTheCity ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares and protects information when you use our website at guessthecityapp.com and our mobile application (together, the "Services"). By using the Services you agree to this Policy.

2. Information We Collect

• Account data (optional): if you create a free account, we store your name, email address and a securely hashed password. Advertisers additionally provide company name, website and phone.
• Content you create: saved destinations ("My Trips"), city ratings and tips, and game scores. If you are signed in, these are stored on our servers so they sync across devices; otherwise they stay in your browser's local storage.
• Payment data (advertisers only): card payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles it and we retain only a payment reference and status.
• Usage & device data: pages visited, games played, browser type, operating system and country-level location, collected for analytics and security.
• Newsletter: if you subscribe, we store your email to send travel content and offers. You can unsubscribe any time.

3. How We Use Information

• To operate and improve the Services (games, tools, city guides, destination finder).
• To provide accounts, sync your saved data across devices and maintain leaderboards.
• To process advertiser orders and payments, and to display purchased advertising placements.
• To send transactional emails (order confirmations, password resets) and, if you opt in, our newsletter.
• To analyse aggregate usage, prevent abuse and keep the Services secure.

4. Legal Bases (EEA/UK users)

Where the GDPR applies, we process data under: contract (to provide accounts and advertiser services), consent (analytics/advertising cookies and the newsletter), and legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention and improving the Services).

5. Third-Party Services

We share data with providers only as needed to run the Services:

• Stripe — payment processing for advertisers.
• Google Analytics 4 — aggregate usage analytics (loaded only with your consent).
• Google AdSense / AdMob — advertising that helps keep the Services free (loaded only with your consent).
• Amazon SES — sending emails.
• Affiliate partners (e.g. Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Skyscanner) — when you click an affiliate link you leave our Services and become subject to that provider's own privacy policy.

6. Cookies & Local Storage

Account and content data are kept while your account is active. Anonymous local-storage data stays on your device until you clear it. Advertiser order and payment records are retained as required for accounting and tax. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.

Passwords are hashed, payments are handled by PCI-compliant Stripe, and access to personal data is restricted. No method of transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
