💡 About Cartagena

Cartagena, on Colombia's Caribbean coast, is one of the most beautiful colonial cities in the Americas — a walled old town of candy-coloured mansions, flower-draped balconies and cobbled plazas enclosed by massive stone ramparts built to fend off pirates.

Founded in 1533, it became the principal Spanish treasure port of the New World, and its formidable fortifications, the largest in South America, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bougainvillea spills over the walls as horse-drawn carriages clatter through the streets.

Beyond the historic centre, Cartagena pulses with Caribbean life — champeta music, street vendors selling tropical fruit, and warm nights in lively plazas. Offshore lie the white-sand beaches and coral reefs of the Rosario Islands.
