💡 About Cusco

Cusco, cradled high in the Peruvian Andes at 3,400 metres, was the sacred capital of the Inca Empire — the "navel of the world" from which the Incas ruled a domain stretching thousands of kilometres along the spine of South America.

When the Spanish conquered the city, they built their churches and mansions directly on top of the Inca stonework, and today Cusco is a mesmerising layering of two civilisations — baroque colonial facades resting on flawless Inca walls whose stones fit together without mortar.

Cusco is the gateway to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, and its cobbled streets, Andean markets and vibrant Quechua culture make it one of South America's most enchanting cities. The air is thin, the light is golden, and the past feels vividly alive.
