๐ก About The Hague
The Hague (Den Haag), the seat of the Dutch government and the residence of the royal family, is the Netherlands' distinguished political capital, even though Amsterdam is the constitutional one. Elegant, green and refined, it has a stately atmosphere quite different from the rest of the country.
The city is known worldwide as the international city of peace and justice, home to the International Court of Justice, housed in the fairy-tale Peace Palace, and the International Criminal Court. Diplomats and legal experts from around the globe give it a distinctly cosmopolitan character.
The Hague is also a city of art, home to the Mauritshuis museum, whose collection includes Vermeer's luminous "Girl with a Pearl Earring" and Rembrandt masterpieces. Grand government buildings surround the medieval Binnenhof, the oldest parliament complex still in use in the world.
Just beyond the city lie the wide sandy beaches and lively seaside resort of Scheveningen, on the North Sea coast. Combining political gravitas, artistic treasures and beach-town leisure, The Hague is one of the Netherlands' most graceful cities.
