💡 About Innsbruck

Innsbruck, the capital of the Austrian Tyrol, sits in a broad valley encircled by the towering peaks of the Alps, which rise so dramatically that they seem to loom directly over the city rooftops. It is one of the world's great alpine cities, where urban culture and mountain wilderness meet within minutes of each other.

A twice-host of the Winter Olympics, Innsbruck is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders, with world-class slopes reachable directly from the city centre by a futuristic funicular designed by Zaha Hadid. In summer, the same mountains offer spectacular hiking and climbing.

But Innsbruck is more than a sports hub — it has a rich imperial past as a favoured residence of the Habsburg emperors. Its beautifully preserved medieval old town is crowned by the famous Golden Roof, a balcony covered with 2,657 gilded copper tiles built for Emperor Maximilian I.

With its blend of baroque architecture, imperial grandeur and jaw-dropping natural beauty, Innsbruck is utterly enchanting. Colourful painted houses line its river, and everywhere you look, the snow-capped Nordkette range provides an unforgettable backdrop.
