๐Ÿ’ก About Naples

Naples is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, founded by the Greeks nearly 2,800 years ago, and the vibrant, chaotic, passionate heart of southern Italy. Its historic centre is the largest in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stacked with churches, palaces and hidden underground catacombs.

The city lives in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano on mainland Europe, whose catastrophic eruption in 79 AD famously buried the nearby Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, preserving them in astonishing detail.

Naples is the birthplace of pizza โ€” the classic Margherita was created here, and Neapolitan pizza-making is recognised by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. Overlooking the sparkling Bay of Naples, with the isles of Capri and Ischia on the horizon, the city serves as the gateway to the breathtaking Amalfi Coast.
