💡 About Guilin
Guilin, in the Guangxi region of southern China, is set amid one of the most beautiful and surreal landscapes on Earth — a dreamlike scenery of thousands of jagged limestone karst peaks rising abruptly from lush green plains and winding rivers. For centuries these misty mountains have inspired Chinese poets and painters.
The classic way to experience this landscape is a cruise down the Li River, gliding past the iconic peaks, bamboo groves, water buffalo and fishermen on bamboo rafts. This very scene — the karst hills reflected in the river — is so beloved it is printed on China's 20-yuan banknote.
The nearby town of Yangshuo has become a laid-back travellers' hub, surrounded by countryside perfect for cycling, rock climbing and exploring by boat. The spectacular Longji Rice Terraces, carved into the mountainsides over centuries, cascade down the hills like giant green staircases.
Guilin itself is a pleasant city dotted with its own karst hills, caves and lakes lit up beautifully at night. Combining natural wonder with rural charm, the Guilin region offers some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere in China.
